Jakarta. The Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), known for its strong opposition to the government, has decided to nominate Bobby Nasution, the son-in-law of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, for the North Sumatra gubernatorial election.

Bobby, currently the mayor of Medan, has now been endorsed by seven political parties.

"It’s official now," PKS spokesman Ahmad Mabruri told reporters on Friday, confirming the party’s nomination of Bobby.

Earlier in the day, PKS Chairman Ahmad Syaikhu handed the endorsement letter to Bobby during a meeting at the party’s headquarters in South Jakarta.

PKS has stipulated that Bobby appoint Asahan Regent Surya as his running mate. Surya, a PKS member, was also present at the closed-door event.

In addition to PKS, Bobby’s nomination has been endorsed by the Golkar Party, the Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra), the Democratic Party, the National Mandate Party (PAN), the National Democratic Party (Nasdem), and the National Awakening Party (PKB).
