Girl, 16, Who Jumped from Employer’s Home Dies after Week-Long Hospital Treatment
Tangerang. A 16-year-old girl who jumped from the third floor of her employer’s home in Tangerang succumbed to her injuries on Wednesday, exactly a week after the incident.
Police have named three suspects, including the employer and individuals from the employment agency, for alleged child exploitation and document manipulation related to the girl’s age.
Endang Widyastiwi, director of Tangerang Municipal Hospital where the girl had been treated, said she died from internal trauma in her lungs.
“The condition triggered blood clots that led to her death,” Endang said. “During the first day at the hospital, her lungs were clear, but on the second day, we diagnosed severe trauma developing in the lungs.”
Tangerang Metropolitan Police Chief Zain Dwi Nugroho said the employment agency had falsified the girl’s personal data to obtain an ID card. They manipulated her age to 21 years old and falsely listed her birthplace as Brebes, Central Java.
The victim, identified by the initials CC, was actually 16 years old and born in Karawang, West Java, according to authentic documents such as her junior high school diploma, Zain said.
One of the three suspects has been detained at the Tangerang Metropolitan Police headquarters.
The domestic assistant jumped from the third floor of her employer’s house in the Karawaci subdistrict on the morning of May 29. Residents of the neighborhood tried to persuade her not to jump, but to no avail.
Police suspect she had been physically abused by her employer, leading to the incident.
Her uncle, Rohman, said she died at 2:18 p.m. on Wednesday at the hospital and would be buried in her hometown in Srikamulyan village, Karawang Regency.
Rohman mentioned that he had attempted to pick her up earlier on the tragic day, but the employer refused to let her go until a replacement was found.
“The female employer wouldn’t let her go and asked me to leave or she would call the police. Therefore, I left,” he told reporters at the hospital.
Srikamulyan Village head, Halim, urged the police to hold the employer accountable.
