Jakarta. Presidential candidate Ganjar Pranowo outlined his positions on defense, security, and international relations during the presidential debate on Sunday. Ganjar emphasized the need for the modernization of the defense system, a redefinition of foreign policy, and comprehensive police reform.

"Our foreign policy is a tool for negotiation with the outside world, but the interests of the people must be the top priority. We must redefine our free and active foreign policy to align with current conditions," Ganjar said during the debate.

Ganjar said currently, the Indonesian people require more job opportunities and investments. Therefore, diplomats and ambassadors will be tasked with addressing these issues.

Regarding the Palestine issue, Ganjar affirmed Indonesia's consistent support for decolonization efforts. "This is our commitment to Palestine," he stated.

In terms of defense systems, Ganjar announced plans to transform the universal people's defense system into the cornerstone of the national defense.

"Our defense must enter the realm of (technology) 5.0, such as hypersonic missiles, quantum sensors, cyber weapons, and autonomous weapon systems. All of these can be achieved if the defense budget reaches 1-2 percent of the GDP, ensuring the minimum essential forces (MEF) are attainable. I am concerned that the MEF may not be achieved by 2024," Ganjar said.

Currently, Indonesia's defense budget is at around 0.8 percent of the GDP.

Addressing security issues, Ganjar highlighted the importance of addressing threats such as terrorism, narcotics, online lending, online gambling, sexual violence, and money laundering.

"The police reform must anticipate these threats by strengthening its cyber system," Ganjar concluded.
