Kendal, Central Java. A flash flood swept away six students from Walisongo State Islamic University (UIN Walisongo) in Semarang during a field activity in Kendal Regency on Tuesday afternoon, killing four and leaving two others missing, local authorities confirmed.

The incident occurred as the students were relaxing by the Jolinggo River in Getas village, Singorojo subdistrict, when a sudden surge of water hit the area.

“They likely didn’t realize heavy rain had fallen in the southern upstream area, as their location was only overcast,” said Budiono, head of the Semarang Search and Rescue Agency.

Villagers who witnessed the event attempted to rescue the group and called emergency services, but four students were found dead. Search teams continue to look for the two remaining victims.

Authorities released the identities of the six students, all aged 21:

• Riska Amelia, female, from Pemalang — found deceased
• Syifa Nadilah, female, from Pemalang — found deceased
• Nabila Yulian Dessi Pramesti, female, from Bojonegoro — found deceased
• Muhammad Labib Risqi, male, from Pekalongan — found deceased
• Muhammad Jibril Asyarofi, male, from Jepara — missing
• Bima Pranawira, male, from Gresik — missing

Rescue operations are ongoing with joint teams from the local SAR agency, police, and community volunteers working along the riverbanks to locate the missing students.
