Jakarta. The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has welcomed Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa’s initiative to involve the agency in pursuing Rp 60 trillion ($3.6 billion) in unpaid taxes from tax evaders.

“KPK is certainly open to synergy and collaboration with any party in the context of combating corruption, in this case with the Finance Ministry, particularly regarding how we can optimize state revenue, especially from tax receipts,” said KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo on Wednesday at the KPK headquarters in South Jakarta.

Budi explained that corruption risks are not limited to government spending or financing but also affect state revenue. These revenues, including taxes, customs duties, and non-tax state revenue (PNBP), are vulnerable to mismanagement or corruption.

“Supervision is needed so that these state revenues can be protected and optimized to benefit the country. Once the funds enter state coffers, monitoring their allocation and budget implementation is equally important,” Budi said.

KPK is also working to optimize local tax revenue by strengthening coordination and supervision at the regional level. “For example, through tourism potential, culinary sectors, or other opportunities, KPK continues to provide guidance and oversight to help local governments generate added value and increase their budgets,” Budi said.

Earlier, Finance Minister Purbaya confirmed the government’s commitment to pursuing tax obligations from 200 major defaulters, totaling Rp 60 trillion.

“The total claims range from Rp 50 to Rp 60 trillion. We will act on them soon, and there is no room for avoidance,” Purbaya said during a state budget press conference on Monday.

Tax collection will also involve multiple government institutions, including the Attorney General’s Office, the Indonesian National Police, KPK, and the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK). Purbaya said that inter-agency data sharing will strengthen the government’s ability to recover overdue taxes.

Indonesia is targeting Rp 3,147.7 trillion in state revenue next year, of which Rp 2,357.7 trillion will come from taxes, a 13.5 percent increase from this year’s outlook. The Directorate General of Taxation only collected around Rp 1,135.4 trillion ($68.4 billion) in taxes in the first eight months of 2025, down 5.1 percent year-on-year (yoy).
