Jakarta. Former Pancasila University Chancellor Edie Toet Hendratno on Thursday vehemently denied sexual abuse allegations brought forward by two former employees.

The two women accused Edie of non-consensual kissing and groping in separate incidents more than a year ago.

Speaking to journalists at the National Police headquarters in Jakarta, Edie claimed he never did what his accusers had told the police.

"During the past two months, I have been subjected to insults and humiliation due to unethical accusations of things which I never did," Edie said.

Edie, 72, was stripped of his leadership role in the Jakarta-based university earlier this week in response to the alleged scandal.

His accusers filed the police complaints in January but the case was made public by their lawyer only recently.

"I was wondering their motive behind all this, but I suspect it has something to do with the upcoming chancellor election at Pancasila University,” Edie said.

"I have served as Pancasila University chancellor for 13 years -- it's very rare for a chancellor to serve that long. Prior to that, I was the vice chancellor at the University of Indonesia for four years,” the law professor said.

“My dedication and service in the education sector is evident and proven. I have never thought that I would arrive at a low point like this where my reputation is at stake.”

Amanda Manthovani, an attorney for the two accusers, said earlier this week that the incidents occurred in December 2022 and February 2023.

One of the victims resigned from the university due to the “traumatic incident”, Amanda said.
