Solo, Central Java. Indonesian police have arrested a bank driver accused of fleeing with Rp 10 billion ($613,000) in cash belonging to the provincial lender Bank Jateng after a week on the run.

The suspect, identified only as AT, was captured at around 4 a.m. Monday in Panggang subdistrict, Gunungkidul, Yogyakarta, according to Solo Police Chief Catur Cahyono Wibowo.

“The main suspect was arrested this morning in Gunungkidul. He is currently undergoing interrogation,” Catur told reporters in Solo.

So far, police have only arrested AT but are investigating whether others were involved.

According to police, AT had been assigned to transport funds for Bank Jateng. On September 1, he drove off with Rp 10 billion that was supposed to be delivered to a branch in the neighboring regency of Wonogiri.

Investigations revealed that AT and a bank colleague first collected Rp 6 billion from Bank Indonesia’s Solo branch using the bank’s operational vehicle. They then picked up another Rp 4 billion from Bank Jateng’s Solo branch.

While the colleague briefly stepped away to use the restroom during the loading process, AT drove off with the vehicle and the cash.

CCTV footage captured the car leaving the scene at around 12:20 p.m. Attempts to contact AT failed, and both he and the vehicle disappeared.

Police later found the car abandoned near the campus of Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta, but the money was gone.

Police said they are now tracing the missing funds and possible accomplices. “We will provide updates as the investigation develops,” Catur said.
