Cambodia to Deport 107 Indonesian Nationals After Cyber-Fraud Crackdown
Jakarta. Cambodian authorities will deport 107 Indonesian nationals who were arrested as suspects in a sweeping crackdown on international online scam networks, Indonesia’s embassy in Phnom Penh said on Thursday.
The detainees -- including a pregnant woman -- have been moved to the Prek Pnov Immigration Detention Center in Phnom Penh, where they will await deportation in stages. “All Indonesian citizens are in good health,” the embassy said.
Cambodia announced the arrests in late October as part of a coordinated nationwide operation targeting cyber-fraud syndicates, many of which recruit foreign nationals through deceptive overseas job offers.
Following official notification from the Cambodian police, the Indonesian Embassy requested immediate consular access and, on November 2, met the detainees to provide legal guidance and humanitarian support. Embassy officials confirmed that all 107 individuals held valid passports at the time of arrest.
The case underscores the scale of the issue: as of September 2025, the Indonesian Embassy in Phnom Penh handled more than 3,300 cases involving Indonesian citizens caught up in online scam operations or trafficking-linked job schemes in Cambodia.
The embassy urged Indonesians to exercise caution when receiving job offers abroad that promise high salaries with minimal qualifications, warning that many such opportunities are fronts for human trafficking or forced involvement in cyber-fraud activities.
