Jakarta. Indonesia’s U-23 match against Singapore at the 2025 SEA Games has been officially canceled following a reshuffling of the football group stage, triggered by Cambodia’s withdrawal from Group A over security concerns.

Cambodia pulled out due to political tensions with host Thailand, prompting organizers to move Singapore from Group C into the vacant slot in Group A. The adjustment leaves Indonesia competing only with the Philippines and Myanmar in Group C.

Organizers said the realignment was needed to maintain balance and ensure the safety of all delegations. “The reshuffle aims to keep the competition running smoothly while preserving the tournament’s integrity,” the committee said.

The canceled fixture also frees Indonesia’s schedule on December 5, originally set for the Singapore match, giving coach Indra Sjafri more time to refine tactics and manage player readiness amid sudden changes.

PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir voiced full support for the squad. “We remain optimistic. Indonesia’s U-23 team can adapt quickly and stay focused to defend the SEA Games title,” he said.

Indra echoed the sentiment, noting that the team must maintain intensity despite the disruption. “Even without Singapore, the Philippines and Myanmar are strong opponents. Discipline and consistency will define our results,” he said.

From Singapore’s side, head coach Firdaus Kassim welcomed the new challenge in Group A, which now pairs the Lions with Thailand.

The reshuffle reshapes the competitive landscape: Group C becomes a tight three-way battle, while Group A grows more crowded. With only one group winner and the best runner-up advancing to the semifinals, every match becomes decisive for Indonesia.
