British Tourist Found Dead After Solo Dive in Lombok
Lombok. A British tourist, Robert Peter Ladd, 46, was found dead after failing to surface from a dive off Gili Air in West Nusa Tenggara on Tuesday, local authorities said.
The victim’s body was recovered by a search and rescue (SAR) team at around 1:20 p.m. local time at a depth of approximately 12 meters, not far from the point where he began his dive.
“After maximum first aid efforts were carried out, medical personnel declared the victim dead,” said SAR team coordinator I Gusti Komang Aryadana.
Ladd had entered the water alone from the shoreline at around 11:00 a.m. local time. Concerns were raised when he failed to resurface after more than an hour, prompting his companions and local dive operators to alert rescue authorities.
Responding to the report, SAR personnel deployed underwater search equipment and focused efforts on the area near the initial dive location.
Following the recovery, the body was transported by boat to shore and then taken by ambulance to Bhayangkara Hospital in Mataram.
Aryadana urged tourists, particularly divers, to strictly follow safety procedures and avoid diving alone without a companion or a professional guide.
