Basarnas Jakarta Deploys Seven Vessels in Search for Missing Taiwanese from Capsized Boat

Jakarta. The National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) of Jakarta has mobilized seven vessels to search for a Taiwanese national who went missing in the waters of Rambut Island, Kepulauan Seribu, after the capsizing of KM Pari Kudus on Monday at 3:30 p.m. Jakarta time.

"This morning, we continue the search for the victim of KM Pari Kudus, which capsized in the waters of Pulau Rambut on Monday afternoon," Agung Priambodo, the Head of Operations of Basarnas DKI Jakarta, said on Tuesday.

He mentioned that approximately 80 to 100 joint personnel are actively involved in the search operation. The seven vessels deployed belong to Basarnas, the Indonesian Navy (TNI AL), the police, the North Jakarta, and Kepulauan Seribu's Fire and Rescue Agency, among others.

"We started the search at 7:00 a.m. to locate the missing victim," he added.

Agung explained that the search is being conducted around the incident location, with sweeping efforts extending eastward and southward from the incident site.

The missing victim identified as a Taiwanese national named Shi Yi, aged around 40-45, was last seen wearing a gray shirt, black pants, and a black hat.

He noted that the total number of passengers on the capsized KM Pari Kudus boat was 35 people. There was one individual who did not appear in the initial passenger manifest but was found safe.

"The missing victim is one person, and 31 passengers along with three crew members have been evacuated," he stated.

Meanwhile, the Chief of the Kepulauan Seribu Police, AKBP Jarot, revealed that there were 10 foreign nationals among the victims of the capsized KM Pari Kudus, which was hit by high waves while sailing from Asha Resort, Payung Island, Kepulauan Seribu, to Pantai Mutiara, North Jakarta.

He clarified that the 10 foreign nationals consisted of five Chinese, four Taiwanese, and one Korean.
