Bank Branch Head Murder: Jakarta Police Arrest 15, One Fugitive Remains
Jakarta. Jakarta police have arrested 15 suspects in the kidnapping and murder of state-owned bank branch head Mohamad Ilham Pradipta, 37, while one suspect, EG, remains at large.
Wira Satya Triputra, Director of General Criminal Investigation at the Jakarta Metro Police, said EG was part of the team that tailed Pradipta before the abduction. “There is still one person we have not captured, listed as a fugitive under the initials EG. He was tasked with following the victim,” Wira said during a press conference Tuesday in Jakarta.
With EG now listed as a fugitive, the total number of suspects in the case rises to 16. Among those already in custody is Corporal FH, an active Indonesian Army member who is also undergoing military legal proceedings. Authorities say the involvement of a serving military officer highlights the organized nature of the crime.
The case began on Aug. 20, when Ilham was kidnapped from a supermarket parking lot in Pasar Rebo, East Jakarta. His body was discovered the following day in a thicket in Serang Baru, Bekasi Regency, with his face, hands, and feet bound with black tape, suggesting severe abuse prior to his death.
Investigators have traced the origins of the crime to a July 31 meeting, where three key figures --C (also known as Ken), Dwi Hartono, and AAM-- planned to exploit dormant bank accounts at Bank BRI. C had access to sensitive account data, which the group sought to transfer through coercion. Communications between C and Dwi Hartono on Aug. 12 indicated an initial plan to threaten the victim without killing him, but the plot escalated into kidnapping and murder.
Authorities said that the investigation is ongoing. “We have full details on the fugitive EG’s identity and communication channels. Field teams are actively working to capture him as soon as possible,” Wira said.
Police have highlighted that the case exposes vulnerabilities in financial systems, particularly dormant accounts, which the perpetrators attempted to exploit. The arrests so far show a structured division of roles among suspects, suggesting a highly organized operation.
“This case is not only about kidnapping and murder but also involves serious attempts at financial crime, which pose significant risks to the banking system. We will continue pursuing all suspects until they are brought to justice and the full motive is uncovered,” Wira said.
