Jakarta. Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said Tuesday that reports of Thailand accusing Cambodia of violating the hours-hold truce were nothing to worry about, saying that both sides had settled their differences.

Anwar is currently in Jakarta after hosting ceasefire talks between his Cambodian counterpart Hun Manet and Thai Acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai in Putrajaya. The ceasefire came into effect on Monday at midnight to end five days of bloody fighting over border disputes. Thai army spokesman Winthai Suwaree claimed that Cambodian forces had launched armed attacks at the time the agreement took effect. Phnom Penh had denied the accusations.

Anwar kicked off his Jakarta visit with an annual consultation with President Prabowo Subianto -- a meeting that took place at a time when the broken ceasefire made global news. Anwar, whose country now holds ASEAN’s rotating chairmanship, then went to the bloc’s Secretariat for a policy speech. Speaking to reporters before leaving the group’s headquarters, Anwar admitted that there was a “minor issue”. However, he assured that Cambodia and Thailand had sorted things out when their respective military held talks that day.

“It has been resolved when the commanders met. I got the latest [updates]. It is resolved,” Anwar told the press. "Now it's okay. The commanders on the ground have met and settled.”

Anwar also admitted that everything was "alright so far”.

His policy speech earlier that day put a laser focus on the recent ceasefire. He thanked US President Donald Trump for pushing the truce negotiations. The American president has been using trade deals as leverage. Anwar also extended his thanks to the Chinese government for promoting the peace talks.

“I commend Prime Minister Hun Manet and Acting Prime Minister Phumtham for their statesmanship, as well as President Trump and the Chinese leadership for their constructive engagement,” Anwar said.

He added: “The presence and cooperation of all parties reaffirm that peace is best achieved through dialogue, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to stability.”

Prabowo had commended Anwar’s peace broker role during their bilateral talks, saying that the Malaysian politician had “made a breakthrough”.

The border disputes stem from a 1907 map created during the French colonial rule in Cambodia. The map had led to conflicting interpretations with Thailand.
