5 Die after Tourist Bus Collides with Dump Truck in Gresik
Gresik. At least five people died after a tourist bus carrying 62 passengers collided head-on with a dump truck in Gresik Regency, East Java, on Sunday.
The Bagas Putra bus crossed into oncoming traffic on Kemangi Bungah Street, leading to the collision, said traffic police officer Tita Puspita Agustina.
“The driver lost concentration as the bus veered across the lane on the right side and collided with the dump truck,” she said.
The impact of the collision resulted in the complete destruction of the front area of the bus.
The victims, all from the nearby town of Pasuruan, have been identified as Auliyah Mahfiroh, Kasmini, Noman Alif Agustyahya, Utanta Ihza Mahendra, and Aniek.
Additionally, at least 15 bus passengers were hospitalized for injuries sustained in the accident.
This marks the third fatal bus accident in the past two months. In December, a passenger bus overturned along the Cipali Toll Road in the West Java town of Purwakarta, killing at least 12 individuals. Another tragic incident occurred earlier this month when a bus overturned along the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road in Karawang Regency, resulting in the death of six passengers.
