Light, Line & Lapel: Where Indonesian Masterpieces Meet Classic Menswear
Jakarta. Art and fashion joined forces in a stylish way last Saturday as Light, Line & Lapel brought together an exhibition and auction of Indonesian master paintings alongside a showcase of classic menswear.
The one-day event, hosted at the Masterpiece Building in Central Jakarta, was organized by Business Lounge Journal in collaboration with Global Auction -- the country’s largest auction house -- and SOROI, a brand specializing in timeless men’s style.
A Blend of Canvases and Lapels
The show featured 190 works by legendary Indonesian painters such as Affandi, Basuki Abdullah, Popo Iskandar, and Hendra Gunawan. While guests admired brushstrokes from the maestros, they also got a front-row look at classic suits, tailored cuts, quality leather footwear, and refined accessories.
“This is about expanding the art market beyond the canvas,” said Yohanes Kevin Oenardi Raharjo, Director of Global Auction. “Our clients who love art can also channel that appreciation into how they dress. Both fine art and classic menswear share their own artistry.”
Kevin noted that Global Auction has been pushing Indonesian artworks into the international spotlight since 2003. “Many of these paintings were sold overseas and ended up in the hands of Indonesian buyers anyway. So why not build that same market here?” he added.
A First-of-Its-Kind Showcase
For SOROI co-founder Samuel Reynaldo Hendrawan, the event was a natural pairing. “Some of our clients are art collectors too. We believe that people who appreciate classic menswear often value high-quality, timeless items -- like paintings,” he explained.
Samuel hopes Light, Line & Lapel will create a cross-market effect, where art enthusiasts discover menswear brands and fashion lovers deepen their appreciation for Indonesian art.
The fashion lineup included SOROI, Archie, Terra, Common Suits, Brillington, Pangestoe, Saphir, and Shine & Go, while the lifestyle experience was rounded out with sponsors such as Lapo Porsea, Kopi KAMU, Oatside, and Dimatique.
The result? A fresh concept that seamlessly linked heritage, craftsmanship, and personal style, reminding guests that art doesn’t just belong on walls -- sometimes, it’s in the way you wear your suit.
