Indonesia’s Mixed Doubles Teams Deliver at China Masters 2025
Jakarta. Indonesian mixed doubles shuttlers Amri Syahnawi and Nita Violina Marwah secured a spot in the round of 16 at the China Masters 2025 after brushing aside England’s Callum Hemming and Estelle Van Leeuwen in straight games on Wednesday.
Competing on Court 3, the Indonesian pair displayed dominance throughout, sealing the match with a convincing 21-17, 21-13 scoreline. The opening game was tightly contested as the English duo attempted to match Amri and Nita’s fast-paced rallies. But the Indonesians held their nerve during the decisive points, edging out their opponents to close the first game 21-17.
The second game saw Amri and Nita turn up the intensity. With more aggressive play and a varied attacking pattern, they put Hemming and Van Leeuwen under relentless pressure. The English pair struggled to break free from the sustained onslaught, and the Indonesians comfortably wrapped up the win 21-13. The victory ensured Amri and Nita’s continued presence in the Super 750 tournament, boosting Indonesia’s chances in the mixed doubles event.
Earlier in the day, another Indonesian mixed doubles duo, Jafar Hidayatullah and Felisha Pasaribu, also advanced to the next round after overcoming Japan’s Hiroki Midorikawa and Natsu Saito. In a match that was neck-and-neck from the start, Jafar and Felisha showcased composure in critical moments, closing out the encounter 23-21, 21-17. Their solid performance adds depth to Indonesia’s mixed doubles campaign at the tournament.
However, it was not all smooth sailing for the Indonesian contingent. Men’s singles player Alwi Farhan bowed out in the round of 32 after losing to China’s fourth seed Li Shi Feng. Playing on Court 1, Alwi showed flashes of resistance in the early stages of the first game but was unable to sustain the challenge. Li’s consistency and power proved too much as the Chinese star eased to a 21-16, 21-9 victory.
The China Masters, part of the Badminton World Federation’s World Tour Super 750 series, attracts top-tier players from around the globe. For Indonesia, the tournament serves as a crucial battleground to secure ranking points and prepare for bigger challenges ahead, including the season-ending World Tour Finals.
