New York. Heidi Klum transformed into Medusa for Halloween on Friday, donning green scales and writhing snakes for her annual party.

Klum, who said she loves the Greek myth in which a goddess curses a beautiful woman to become a monster whose hair of serpents turns onlookers to stone, described her look as “really, really ugly.” She pointed to fangs in her mouth and added, “I feel like we nailed it to the teeth.”

Her husband, musician Tom Kaulitz, complemented the theme, dressing as a man turned to stone. Klum said she spent 10 hours in makeup and costume preparation, an investment she happily embraces for the celebration she loves.

The supermodel-turned-TV personality went viral in 2022 when she arrived at her party suspended on a fishing line, encased in a wriggling worm costume. Over the years, her costumes have included an 8-foot-tall “Transformer,” a Michael Jackson “Thriller” werewolf, a clone accompanied by multiple Klum lookalikes, and Kali, the multi-armed Hindu goddess of death and destruction. She has said she begins planning the next year’s costume immediately after each party ends.

Other celebrities on the red carpet at New York’s Hard Rock Hotel included Darren Criss, painted green as Shrek, Maye Musk as Cruella de Vil, and Ariana Madix as Lady Gaga.

Meanwhile, Janelle Monáe also hosted her annual Halloween party on Friday, appearing as a vampire attacked by a shark. Earlier in the week, she had dressed as the Cat in the Hat, part of a month-long series of Halloween-themed immersive events in Los Angeles, culminating with her Studio City party.

“Halloween gives context to what I already do every day,” Monáe told The Associated Press in early October. “As an artist, I’m always transforming, world-building and inviting people to play in the worlds I create.”
