Ed Sheeran's Spontaneous Gift Leaves Jakarta Fan in Awe
Jakarta. British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran made an impromptu visit to a local market, Pasar Santa, in South Jakarta to give away his vinyl albums to fans, just hours before his concert in Jakarta on Saturday.
One of the fortunate fans was a woman affectionately known as Cou. Little did she know that her visit to Pasar Santa in Jakarta would grant her the rare opportunity to meet the renowned singer in person.
Not only did Cou have the privilege of meeting Ed Sheeran, but she also received a vinyl album of his hit "Divide" without having to spend a penny. The vinyl had also been personally signed by Ed Sheeran himself.
According to Cou's X account @elecoucoue on Sunday, Cou expressed her disbelief and gratitude, stating that she had never anticipated Ed Sheeran's presence inside the hipster market.
Cou had initially visited Pasar Santa simply to have lunch with her sibling. After the meal, as she strolled through Pasar Santa, she was taken aback when she spotted Ed Sheeran.
Initially, she couldn't believe that the singer of "Perfect" and "Thinking Out Loud" was in Jakarta. However, as she observed the commotion, she became more convinced that the person in question was indeed Ed Sheeran.
At that moment, Cou was content with admiring Ed Sheeran from a distance and exchanging greetings. Following this, she decided to head home. Before leaving, she shared the unexpected encounter with her sibling. Fate smiled upon Cou when her sibling requested to accompany her to see Ed Sheeran.
During their second meeting, Ed Sheeran surprised Cou by presenting her with the "Divide" vinyl album. "Honestly, I didn't expect to receive a vinyl. Initially, I just greeted him, and when he left, I was about to go home but when my sibling asked to see him again, he gave it to me directly," wrote Cou.
Upon receiving the vinyl, Cou admitted to feeling shocked, and her mind went blank for a moment. The whole experience seemed surreal as if it were still a dream.
Assuring her followers on social media, Cou pledged not to sell the album.
The Ed Sheeran album became even more special to Cou as it was given to her on her birthday, as per her prediction in January 2024 when she expressed anticipation for a tearful birthday celebration. "This year's birthday is so awesome; it's going to be filled with tears. Can't wait to see which of Allah's blessings will come first," Cou shared on her private X account on Jan. 19.
Today, Cou revisited that tweet, stating, "Turns out it's an Ed Sheeran album," encapsulating the enchanting and unexpected turn of events that made her birthday truly memorable.
Aside from handing out vinyl albums, Sheeran was also seen buying a Britney Spears t-shirt.
On Saturday evening, thousands of fans flocked to witness Ed Sheeran's performance at the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) in North Jakarta. This marked his second performance in Indonesia, following his earlier performance on May 3, 2019.
