Jakarta. Tim Burton, popular for his unique visual flair, has just launched the sequel to the original 1988 movie “Beetlejuice” for Indonesian theatrical release.

“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” takes the audience back to the Deetz family about 36 years after the events of the original movie. The grownup Lydia Deetz (Winona Ryder) is now a host for a horror show, and suddenly catches glimpses of Betelgeuse (Michael Keaton) -- the chaotic bio-exorcist from her past.

Lydia’s life turns upside down when her teen daughter Astrid (Jenna Ortega) falls for a life-threatening trap. Lydia has no choice, but to ask for Betelgeuse’s help. In exchange, Lydia has to marry Betelgeuse so the latter can escape from his soul-sucking ex-wife Dolores (Monica Belluci).

“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” starts off a bit slow, especially if compared to the craziness that awaits in the latter part of the movie. But the fantasy comedy horror already delivers in the acoustic department right off the bat. The acapella version of “Day-o” during grandpa Charles Deetz’ funeral is pleasing to the ears. Dolores even has her own song playing when she staples her body early on in the film. Let’s not forget the final wedding scene that has Keaton and the Deetz family lip-syncing.

Tim Burton never runs out of ideas on how to make "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice" even more fun to watch. Burton chooses a stop-motion animation to show the audience how Charles dies from a shark attack. He also tells Dolores-Betelgeuse’s original love story in a black-and-white sequence with the crazy-haired afterlife ghost telling his past in a foreign language.

“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” comes with an incredible cast ensemble. It goes without saying almost all of the actors do a great job in the acting department. The skits featuring Catherine O’Hara as the emotional-creative Delia Deetz are a joy to watch. Keaton is born to play Betelgeuse.
