Paris. Indonesian men’s singles shuttler Anthony Sinisuka Ginting advanced to the round of 16 at the 2025 French Open after defeating Lee Cheuk Yiu of Hong Kong in straight games on Tuesday.

Ginting sealed victory 21–14, 21–13 in under 40 minutes at the BWF World Tour Super 750 event in Paris.

Speaking after his opening-round win, Ginting expressed satisfaction with his performance, crediting focus and strategy as key to the result. “Today’s match went quite well. I tried to stay focused and apply my game plan from start to finish,” he said.

Ginting acknowledged that tougher challenges lie ahead and said he was preparing to adapt to the playing styles of future opponents. “For tomorrow’s match, I have to be ready to anticipate my opponent’s changes in play. I also need to be prepared with my own strategy, when to attack and when to play longer rallies,” he added.

The 28-year-old also confirmed that his hand injury, which had troubled him earlier in the season, is now under control. “My hand injury is fine for now. I just need to keep up the regular treatment because if I skip it, it can feel a bit uncomfortable, though not painful,” Ginting explained.

When asked about his target for the tournament, Ginting said his main goal is to rebuild rhythm, refine his tactics, and regain confidence on court. “My focus in this tournament is to find my playing pattern again, build confidence, and apply the right rhythm and strategy in different court conditions,” he said.

With this win, Ginting moves one step closer to the quarterfinals and awaits his next opponent in the round of 16. The French Open 2025, part of the BWF World Tour Super 750 series, offers a total prize pool of US$700,000.
