Jakarta. The Business Competition Supervisory Commission (KPPU) has identified potential violations of Indonesia's antitrust law No. 5/1999 by Lazada Indonesia (PT Ecart Webportal Indonesia). KPPU has found preliminary evidence and has commenced an investigation into Lazada's business practices.

KPPU Chairman M. Fanshurullah Asa said Lazada is suspected of engaging in discriminatory practices that could hinder competition and potentially harm customers. Evidence collected since 2021 has led KPPU to elevate the investigation process. During the investigation, KPPU will gather evidence related to the alleged violations to determine whether the investigation meets the requirements for advancing to the filing and trial stages or if there is insufficient evidence to proceed.

"If found guilty, Lazada could face penalties of up to 50 percent of net profits or 10 percent of total sales in the relevant market during the period of the violation," he said.

At the start of their term, the 2024-2029 KPPU members emphasized their focus on digital markets and food sectors. Additionally, they committed to a 100-day focus on sectors with the lowest National Business Competition Index scores over the past five years, such as gas, electricity, mining, and construction.
