Jakarta. President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s massive tollway expansion during his 10-year presidency has bore fruits for the logistics industry.

Jokowi has led the country since 2014, and Indonesia has built 2,700 kilometers of new tollways over the past decade. Ian Sudian, a deputy chairperson at the Indonesian Logistics and Forwarder Association (ALFI) Jakarta, recently revealed that companies were able to enjoy higher revenue thanks to the expanded tollways.

“Tollways have helped us speed up [delivery]. Overall, we are seeing an optimization of revenue which has risen between 10-15 percent,” Ian recently told Beritasatu.com.

According to Ian, logistics companies also tend to record even higher revenues with continuous orders. 

“[The tollway network expansion] has brought significant impact on the logistics sector. But [our delivery] is far more swift. We get to be more punctual and secure. It also improves the lead time,” Ian said.  

Ian admitted that companies struggled to distribute their goods before the toll roads were connected with one another. The sluggish delivery at the time caused trucks to use up more fuel. Not only did the companies have to spend money on fuel, but they also had to cover the maintenance costs of the trucks.

“We [logistics companies] are able to save money on fuel and spare parts maintenance thanks to the toll roads,” Ian said.
