Indonesian Stock Market Shows Lackluster Performance for the Short Week

Jakarta. The stock market at the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) displayed subdued activity during this shortened week. Nonetheless, the average daily transaction value for stocks saw an increase.

Based on trading data from the IDX from March 25th to March 28th, 2024, the average daily transaction value rose by 10.88 percent to Rp 11.27 trillion ($709.7 million) from Rp 10.17 trillion last week.

However, the average daily transaction frequency at the Exchange decreased by 10.53 percent to 1.01 million times from 1.13 million times last week. Similarly, the average daily transaction volume at the IDX declined by 10.1 percent to 14.83 billion shares from 16.5 billion shares last week.

Meanwhile, the Composite Stock Price Index weakened by 0.83 percent to 7,288 from 7,350 at the end of last week's trading. Market capitalization dropped by 0.48 percent to Rp 11.748 trillion from Rp 11.692 trillion last week.

On Thursday's trading, foreign investors recorded a net sell transaction of Rp 390.5 billion. Consequently, the net buy value of foreign investors throughout 2024 decreased to Rp 26.28 trillion.

Asian shares ended mostly higher in quiet, Good Friday holiday trading, while European and US markets were closed.

Tokyo’s Nikkei 225 rose 0.5 percent to 40,369.44 and the Kospi in Seoul was little changed, at 2,748.55. The Shanghai Composite index gained 1 percent to 3,041.17.

The US dollar slipped to 151.35 Japanese yen from 151.38 yen. The euro edged lower, to $1.0774 from $1.0790.

On Thursday, the S&P 500 added 0.1 percent, to its all-time high set a day before and closed at 5,254.35. It gained 10.2 percent in the first quarter.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average ticked up 0.1 percent to 39,807.37 and likewise set a record. The Nasdaq composite dipped 0.1 percent to 16,379.46.
