Jakarta. Ride-hailing firm Grab Indonesia on Tuesday announced a Rp100 billion ($5.9 million) welfare program for its driver partners, covering employment insurance contributions, holiday bonuses, and skills development.

The funding will be used to pay premiums for Indonesia’s employment insurance scheme, BPJS Ketenagakerjaan, provide annual religious holiday bonuses, and support driver training through Grab Academy.

“Today we are launching the Grab for Indonesia program by allocating Rp100 billion across three initiatives: free BPJS Ketenagakerjaan insurance contributions, holiday bonuses, and the Grab Academy program,” Grab Indonesia CEO Neneng Goenadi said in Jakarta.

Neneng said the program prioritizes high-performing drivers, but emphasized that all Grab partners will continue to receive basic insurance protection in the event of work-related accidents.

“Even those who are not categorized as top performers will still be covered by insurance if an accident occurs. We hope this program will motivate those who have not yet excelled to improve their performance,” she said.

Grab will introduce performance criteria through a dedicated application, where drivers will be assessed on a monthly basis to determine eligibility for free insurance contributions. A similar evaluation mechanism will be applied to the distribution of holiday bonuses, which are paid once a year.

The initiative received positive feedback from Indonesia’s Minister for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises, Maman Abdurrahman, who said the move reflected a genuine effort to strengthen partnerships and maintain stability within the online transportation ecosystem.

“I appreciate Grab’s positive intentions. The commitment to maintaining a constructive relationship between Grab and its driver partners must continue to be supported so the entire ecosystem remains healthy,” Maman said.
