Globally, gold prices edged higher on Thursday, supported by a weaker US dollar and renewed demand for safe-haven assets amid concerns over a prolonged US government shutdown and ongoing legal disputes surrounding President Donald Trump’s tariff policies.

Data from goldprice.org showed gold at $3,995.26 per ounce, up 11.63 points or 0.28 percent as of Nov. 6, 2025, at 10 p.m. New York time.

Meanwhile, the Federal Reserve last week cut interest rates for the second time this year. Markets are pricing in a 72 percent probability of another rate cut in December. However, Cleveland Fed President Beth Hammack warned that persistently high inflation remains a reason to stay cautious about further easing.

Gold is widely viewed as a hedge against economic uncertainty and tends to benefit when interest rates are low. Investors are now closely watching the ripple effects of Trump’s trade policies and the potential economic fallout from the prolonged US government shutdown.
