Dana Syariah CEO Seeks Settlement After Thousands Lose Rp 1.4 Trillion
Jakarta. The chief executive of peer-to-peer lending platform Dana Syariah Indonesia (DSI) on Monday said he is seeking an amicable settlement after police launched an investigation into the company’s failure to repay Rp 1.4 trillion ($83 million) to thousands of lenders.
DSI President Director Taufiq Aljufri, who has been named a fraud suspect, also denied allegations that he diverted lender funds for personal use.
“Given the current situation, we hope this can be resolved through restorative justice,” said Pris Madani, Taufiq’s lawyer, while accompanying his client at National Police headquarters.
Pris said his legal team respects any decision by DSI lenders to pursue formal legal action over the case.
Authorities began probing DSI after lenders reported that funds they deposited between 2018 and 2025 were not returned. Following the complaints, Indonesian financial authorities froze DSI’s bank accounts and assets.
Pris said his client has shown good faith in resolving the matter, including a commitment to repay lenders in full. He added that Taufiq is prepared to contribute about Rp 10 billion from his personal funds as part of the reimbursement.
However, Pris declined to disclose the total amount to be returned, pending calculations by the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) and the Financial Services Authority (OJK).
He said discrepancies could arise due to differing methodologies in tracing fund flows. PPATK assesses transactions as recorded, while DSI’s team has separated borrower principal, returns, and funds already repaid.
“We need to carefully synchronize our data with PPATK,” Pris said.
He also insisted there was no evidence that any funds had flowed into Taufiq’s personal accounts.
“I can assure you that no money was used for personal interests,” Pris said.
According to information published on DSI’s official website, the company has disbursed Rp 3.87 trillion ($230 million) in financing since its establishment in 2017, collected funds from 41,506 lenders, and extended loans to 1,440 borrowers.
