Burger Franchise Carl's Jr Announces Return to Indonesia
Jakarta. American burger franchise, Carl's Jr is set to make a comeback in Indonesia after announcing the closure of its branches at the end of 2023.
"We'll be back soon in new locations, serving you fresh chargrilled goodness!" the company said on its Instagram account @carlsjrindonesia on Monday.
On Dec. 20, 2023, Carl's Jr. Indonesia announced the cessation of its operations under Mahadasha Group effective on Dec. 31, 2023, after a decade of business in Indonesia. Upon hearing this announcement, Indonesian consumers flocked to Carl's Jr. outlets before their closure.
In 1996, the restaurant established its presence in Indonesia at Kelapa Gading Food and the Indonesia Stock Exchange building but later ceased operations.
Fortune Food International reintroduced Carl's Jr. to Indonesia in 2010, opening its first outlet at Grand Indonesia, Jakarta. However, in 2013, the franchise rights were transferred to Mega Mahadana Hadiya, a company owned by the Trakindo Group of the Hamami Family. Subsequently, they founded Generasi Mutiara Bangsa and assumed control of the existing five Carl's Jr. outlets.
Carl's Jr. operates under Generasi Mutiara Bangsa (GMB), a consumer retail business unit of Mahadasha within the Tiara Marga Trakindo Group, specializing in heavy equipment.
GMB has held exclusive rights to the Carl's Jr. franchise in Indonesia since July 2013, a popular American burger brand operated by Carl Karcher Enterprise.
The first Carl's Jr. outlet under GMB management began operating at Bintaro Jaya Xchange Mall, inaugurated in January 2014 and has since expanded to more than 24 outlets in major cities such as Jakarta, Surabaya, Bandung, and Bogor.
