Bekasi Sets Indonesia’s Highest Minimum Wage at Nearly Rp 6 Million for 2026
Bandung. The city of Bekasi has once again recorded the highest monthly minimum wage in Indonesia, with the figure set just short of Rp 6 million ($358.5) for 2026, according to an announcement made on Wednesday night.
Under a decree issued by West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi, Bekasi’s city minimum wage will rise to Rp 5.99 million starting next year. Bekasi Regency ranked second with a monthly minimum wage of Rp 5.94 million, followed by Karawang Regency at Rp 5.89 million.
The three West Java regions have overtaken Jakarta, whose 2026 minimum wage was set at Rp 5.7 million by Governor Pramono Anung.
However, Jakarta continues to have the highest provincial-level minimum wage in Indonesia, compared with West Java’s provincial minimum wage of Rp 2.32 million.
Dedi said the wage levels were determined after negotiations involving labor unions and business groups. “Some wanted a sharp increase, others wanted the lowest possible figure. The government must take a middle position — accommodating the interests of workers while also considering economic conditions,” he said in Bandung.
West Java is widely regarded as a national benchmark for wage policy, as it hosts a large concentration of industrial estates, particularly in areas surrounding Jakarta such as Bekasi, Depok, Bogor, and Karawang.
The province also shows a wide disparity in minimum wages across districts and cities, with the lowest rates amounting to less than half of the highest levels.
