Toyota Astra Motor Recalls Several Models Due to Safety Issues
Jakarta. Automotive company Toyota-Astra Motor (TAM) has issued a recall for specific models, addressing concerns related to water leakage and potential safety and stability issues in the affected vehicles.
Toyota is recalling Sienta vehicles produced between June 2016 and April 2020 due to a problem with the front garnish pillar clip on the front pillar (pillar A). There's a risk of water leakage, particularly affecting the electric sliding door and the overall electrical system. This could cause the door to open unintentionally, increasing the risk of an accident.
Toyota is also issuing a recall for Avanza and Veloz models manufactured in November 2022. The front door side impact beam in these cars needs repair due to an imperfect installation. This safety component may not operate at its best when facing side impacts. In a worst-case scenario, the side impact beam may not function as intended, causing potential harm to the driver.
Veloz (manufactured from October 2021 to August 2023), Avanza (produced from November 2021 to September 2023), Vios (manufactured from June 2022 to August 2023), and Yaris Cross (produced from May to September 2023) models are also getting recalled. The front shock absorber nut in these vehicles has a potential inconsistency in tightening, leading to abnormal noise and disrupting vehicle stability. The most critical scenario involves the bolt becoming loose, resulting in the front shock absorber dislodging from its position, potentially causing an accident when the vehicle is moving at high speeds.
Vice President Director of Toyota-Astra Motor (TAM), Henry Tanoto, expresses apologies for the inconvenience experienced by customers. Tanoto emphasizes that this recall is a form of continuous improvement and Toyota's transparency in responding to product discrepancies to ensure customer safety.
"Despite the cars being in the hands of customers for several years, if any safety-related discrepancies are identified in products already marketed to the public, especially those concerning safety, Toyota will promptly initiate the necessary repairs, he said in a statement on Tuesday.
Owners are advised to bring their vehicles to an authorized Toyota service center for the necessary repairs at no cost. The estimated time to fix these issues varies from 30 minutes to 4 hours.
