Jakarta. The Digital Economy and Finance Festival (FEKDI) and Indonesia Creative Works (KKI) 2024, held from August 1-4 at the Jakarta Convention Center, showcased an array of cutting-edge innovations, with palm payment technology emerging as a standout.

This technology, allowing users to complete transactions with a simple wave of their hand, represents a significant leap forward in digital payment systems, promising convenience, security, and a glimpse into the future of biometric authentication.

Palm payment, or handwave payment, uses a scanner to read the vein patterns in a user's palm for identification and authentication. This technology is designed to provide a quick and secure payment solution by leveraging the unique biometric features of each individual.

With palm payment technology, transactions can be completed without the need to enter card information or PIN codes.

Chairman of the Indonesian Payment System Association (ASPI), Santoso Liem, said that palm payment is a new innovation still in the development phase. He added that although the technology is promising, several aspects need further investigation before it can be widely implemented.

When asked whether palm payment would be included in Indonesia's payment system blueprint (BSPI), Liem responded that it is still under consideration.

“Palm payment is indeed a new innovation, still in the pilot phase, and we are observing consumer behavior,” Liem told the media at the JCC, Central Jakarta, on Friday (Aug. 2, 2024).

He refrained from commenting extensively on Indonesia's readiness to fully adopt palm payment technology but expressed a positive reception towards this innovation.

“I wouldn't say that the Indonesian public is not ready, but it must be acknowledged that this technology can bridge authentication,” he concluded.
