PTPP Helps Boost Soekarno-Hatta's Terminal 1C's Capacity
Jakarta. State-run construction firm PTPP has revitalized the Terminal 1C at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.
This project, worth Rp 1.3 trillion (including value-added tax), has now entered its final phase. The terminal has also begun operations in stages, marking a major improvement in the quality of service at Indonesia's largest airport.
The revitalization took place from Feb. 18, 2019 to April 30, 2025. The terminal now boasts a service area of 68,168 m², up from 48,212 m² previously. It can now accomodate 8 million passengers per year, a major increase from 3 million. Overall, the revitalization of Terminal 1 increases the airport's capacity from 9 million to 24 million passengers per year.
PTPP also managed to complete the project before the Christmas and New Year holidays.
Injourney Airports CEO Muhammad Rizal Pahlevi thanked PTPP for having helped address the need for modern airport services.
"The PP team is great," he said.
Former President Director of Angkasa Pura Indonesia Faik Fahmi also praised the professionalism and punctuality of the work.
"Thank you to PTPP for their tremendous assistance in accelerating the smooth and timely operation of Terminal 1C," he said.
PTPP Corporate Secretary Joko Raharjo said that the renovations also brought improvements to the passenger experience and airport operations.
"PTPP carried out comprehensive renovations through building beautification, interior modernization, and the reactivation of utility systems and key equipment. Terminal 1C now appears more spacious, modern, efficient, and ready to serve the surge in national air transportation demand," said Joko.
A key part of the renovation is the installation of a synthetic rattan ceiling with a batik motif in the terminal's commercial area. This material is not only aesthetically pleasing and environmentally friendly, but also reflects the fusion of Indonesian cultural values with the modern design of an international airport.
More than 200 small-scale artisans from Tangerang, Serang, and Cirebon participated in manually assembling 1,785 ceiling modules in less than 25 days, thereby reflecting the skill, precision, and dedication of local craftsmen. The Truntum, Kawung, and Samar motifs were chosen to bring heritage character to the airport's public spaces.
The project has also helped create jobs, while strengthening the creative industry supply chain.
The revitalization of Terminal 1C also had its own challenges. The work was carried out on a building that had been standing for more than 40 years, so the modernization process had to maintain the heritage character while providing facilities that met current airport standards. Construction work runs parallel to terminal operations, requiring intensive coordination to ensure passenger activities, comfort, and safety are maintained.
"We ensure all work proceeds without disrupting airport services, while ensuring infrastructure reliability in accordance with applicable aviation regulations," Joko said.
