Natha Satwa Nusantara Launches Animal Shelter Campaign
Jakarta. The Natha Satwa Nusantara Foundation recently launched the “A Brick for Love” campaign to build a shelter for abandoned animals.
Natha Satwa Nusantara founder Davina Veronica announced the campaign at the Plataran Garden Party at Eco City Park, Hutan Kota by Plataran, in Jakarta on Saturday. According to Davina, the foundation, which dates back to 2014, had been looking for a permanent place to shelter the abandoned animals.
“We are currently renting land in Parung, Bogor, to take care of the animals. However, the owner of the said land is about to sell it,” Davina told the attending guests.
“This prompted us to purchase land in Kemang, Bogor, to set up a permanent rehabilitation home after moving thrice,” Davina said.
The foundation recently finished constructing the fences, but it still needs to build cat and dog houses. Davina added: “Once everything is done, this will boost our capacity to shelter abandoned animals. We would not be able to do so without the volunteers’ help and everyone who lent a hand.”
There is also a need to build an office, clinic, a place for the employees to stay, an animal therapy room, and service and education centers.
“It is not cheap to build all this, especially since we are constructing it on permanent land. We want to build our dream shelter that accommodates everyone,” Davina said.
The Natha Satwa Nusantara that evening also held an auction for dog sculptures made from fiber. These sculptures --Bruno, Lady Rose, and Maple-- took inspiration from the dogs that got rescued by the foundation.
“We immortalize their stories in these sculptures. … They tell a sad story. … If we ask ourselves what exactly is the use of this shelter, there is a story behind them [these animals] that come to the foundation,” Davina said.
The foundation also accepts donations in the form of building materials to help with the shelter’s construction.
Davina also commented on the venue, Eco City Park, which she called “dog-friendly”. As the event took place in a garden, this got rid of the “walls” between the guests, rising as one to help abandoned animals, according to Davina.
