Jakarta. Indonesia Eximbank (also known as Lembaga Pembiayaan Ekspor Indonesia or LPEI) is helping businesses to penetrate BRICS markets like Brazil and South Africa with export financing facilities.

LPEI recently held a business forum on how exporters can tap into the said two markets on the margins of the 2025 Trade Expo Indonesia (TEI) in ICE BSD. The forum became a platform for businesspeople to better understand the BRICS market.

Indonesia Eximbank’s National Interest Account (NIA) Department Head, Mr. Agnes Rahadian, said that Indonesia Eximbank as Indonesia’s Export Credit Agency had a particular mandate from government through specified program for Non-Traditional Market Region, also known as the NIA Program or Program Penugasan Khusus Ekspor Kawasan (Program PKE), to give the alternate market destination for exporters to strengthen the international sales network or its dependency with other countries in the traditional/conventional market region.

It specifically targets regions like Africa, South Asia, the Middle East, Eastern Europe, and Latin America (“Program PKE KWS”). The Indonesian government, through the Ministry of Finance (NIA Secretary Committee), has allocated the fund amounting to Rp 2.6 trillion (around $156.9 million) for this particular program. Parts of the fund are also utilized/disbursed to unlock the market opportunities or fill in the untapped sector in the BRICS region.

“The NIA program from Indonesia Eximbank generally facilitates the exporters through the financing, guarantees, and insurance schemes. The support not only gives a competitive rate, but also provides any other convenience schemes for exporters. Not only Program PKE KWS, but also all the NIA Program aims to boost the confidence of our business people to enter and compete in the global market,” Agnes told the conference.

Until September 2025, this “PKE KWS”, which supports exporters to penetrate the export destination to Africa, South Asia, the Middle East, Eastern Europe, and Latin America, has reached more than 50 countries regionally, respectively. The financing of PKE KWS has been disbursed, accumulating an amount of almost Rp 10 trillion. The NIA Program attempts to expand the reach of Indonesia’s leading products to potential markets, including markets/countries in the BRICS region (including all its members).

“For instance, we financed vegetable oil and paper products to India. The same goes for Brazil, where vegetable oil still led the shares. We had supported export projects to the African market region, such as maritime patrol aircraft in Senegal, housing construction in Algeria, and geotechnical survey services in Congo," Agnes explained.

Donny Tamtama, the head of the Indonesian Trade Promotion Center (ITPC) in São Paulo, underlined Jakarta’s increasingly close bilateral ties with Brazil. Donny also pointed out President Prabowo Subianto’s frequent interactions with his Brazilian counterpart Lula da Silva, clearing the way for a possible trade agreement.

“If we can ease the tariff barriers, this will open up the export opportunities,” Donny said.

In the meantime, ITPC São Paulo continues to expand its market network by collaborating with various local consultants and partners.

"We realize that Brazil is enormous. So our approach cannot be focused on just one city. By collaborating with consultants in the northern and southern regions, we can reach more potential buyers and provide tangible benefits to Indonesian businesses," Donny said.

BRICS originally comprised Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. The group has expanded to include Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
