Danone Indonesia Delivers Aid to Disaster Survivors in Central Tapanuli
Jakarta. Danone Indonesia has delivered initial humanitarian assistance to flood- and landslide-hit areas in Central Tapanuli, North Sumatra, as part of its emergency response to the recent disasters in Sumatra.
The company partnered with Central Tapanuli Regent Masinton Pasaribu to visit affected locations, including Tukka village, to assess conditions on the ground. During the visit, Danone Indonesia handed over three truckloads carrying thousands of cartons of 1.5-liter AQUA mineral water, which were subsequently distributed through government-coordinated evacuation centers.
The team also engaged directly with affected households to identify urgent needs, particularly access to clean drinking water. Following its earlier humanitarian response in Tanjung Pura in collaboration with the Muhammadiyah Disaster Management Center (MDMC), Danone Indonesia has now focused its efforts on Central Tapanuli. The company operates two factories, 22 depots, and multiple distribution points across disaster-prone areas in Sumatra.
Danone Indonesia CEO Laurent Boissier said the company’s on-site presence was intended to ensure that assistance matched actual needs.
“It is heartbreaking to see how floods and landslides have disrupted daily life here,” Boissier said.
“But meeting families directly, I also witnessed remarkable resilience. Their strength reinforces our commitment to act swiftly to help restore essential services, especially access to clean water, while strengthening disaster preparedness in close coordination with local authorities.”
Boissier added that Danone Indonesia would continue engaging with residents to ensure its support remains relevant and effective.
Regent Masinton welcomed the company’s involvement, saying the assistance was crucial in the early recovery phase.
“We appreciate Danone Indonesia’s presence and direct support. This assistance helps accelerate the fulfillment of basic needs for affected communities during the initial stages of recovery,” he said.
In addition to Central Tapanuli, Danone Indonesia has distributed packaged drinking water, child nutrition products and financial aid to support early recovery efforts in other disaster-affected regions, with plans to extend similar assistance to Aceh.
