Commercial Vehicle Sales Slide in First Half, Industry Eyes Rebound by Year-End
Jakarta. Sales of commercial vehicles in Indonesia remained sluggish in the first half of 2025, with nearly all categories posting year-on-year declines. However, the Indonesian Automotive Industry Association (Gaikindo) remains hopeful for a market recovery in the second half of the year, supported by increased government spending and the potential revival of national strategic projects.
“We hope there will be a rebound in the second half of 2025, better than the first half,” Gaikindo Secretary General Kukuh Kumara said on Tuesday during the GIIAS 2025 auto show at ICE BSD in Tangerang.
Kukuh noted that commercial vehicle demand is closely tied to real-sector activity such as infrastructure development, logistics, and mining. These sectors, he said, have yet to show strong signs of recovery this year.
“Commercial vehicles usually depend on ongoing projects. If the economy rebounds, commodity prices rise, and the mining sector picks up, then things usually start to move. But right now, things are tough,” he said.
He also underscored the importance of investor-friendly government policies to sustain the industry’s growth momentum.
