BPJS Ketenagakerjaan Board Meets Banjarmasin Mayor, Bank Kalsel
Jakarta. The supervisory board of the BPJS Ketenagakerjaan recently visited Banjarmasin to meet with the city government and Bank Kalsel which is also a member of the employment social security.
BPJS Ketenagakerjaan supervisory board chairman Muhammad Zuhri met with Banjarmasin Mayor Ibnu Sina. In 2021, the Banjarmasin mayor issued a regulation on employment security, which eventually caused the participation rate to skyrocket. Following this regulation, the Banjarmasin government has protected 12,538 workers, consisting of noncivil servants, officials at the local neighborhood associations, sub-district councils, street sweepers, volunteer firefighters, and family planning cadres. In total, BPJS Ketenagakerjaan has protected 89,492 workers. This is 36.74 percent of all eligible workers in Banjarmasin.
“We want to make sure that all policies are well-carried out. We also would like to thank the mayor for his extraordinary support. Hopefully, we can continue to strengthen this support,” Zuhri said.
BPJS Ketenagakerjaan also symbolically handed over the death insurance compensation to two heirs. Each gets a compensation of Rp 42 million. According to Ibnu, the monthly contribution for the insurance stands at Rp 36,800. In 2023, BPJS Ketenagakerjaan paid 25,000 claims with benefits totaling Rp 247 billion.
Indonesia will hold its regional government elections this November. Ahead of the elections, all sub-national governments must register all ad-hoc election officials as members of the BPJS Ketenagakerjaan. Mayor Ibnu said that all officers would be protected by BPJS Ketenagakerjaan.
"From the Banjarmasin City regional budget grant funds, we have handed over everything for the implementation of election activities in November, including the budget allocation for protection for the polling station officers," he said.
During the visit to Bank Kalsel, BPJS Ketenagakerjaan also handed over the compensation to the heir of one of the bank’s employees who had passed away. The compensation reached Rp 373 million, including death compensation, the participant’s old age security, as well as scholarships for their 2 children. The Rp 373 million does not include the periodic pension benefits that the heirs will receive every month.
Zuhri also told Bank Kalsel’s employees to take part in the Sertakan (‘Prosper the workers around you’) campaign. This campaign sees participants help protect informal workers around them, including domestic workers, and personal drivers, among others.
