Bank Indonesia Applauds BNI's Consumer Protection Efforts
Jakarta. Bank Indonesia appreciated the state lender BNI's contribution in improving its customers' financial and digital security literacy.
Bank Indonesia has launched the Joint Consumer Protection Education Movement or also known as GEBER PK. This initiative aims to better protect customers from fraud and scams.
BNI is taking part in the Gerai Cakrawala Edukasi dan Ruang Diskusi Aman untuk Semua Konsumen Indonesia (CERDAS). As the name suggests, the initiative aims to provide a safe space for all Indonesian consumers where they can learn more about personal data protection.
Earlier this month, Bank Indonesia held an appreciation night for those who had helped with GEBER PK with BNI receiving an award that recognized its efforts. BI Consumer Protection Head Anton Daryono handed over the award to BNI's Director of Operations Ronny Venir.
"BNI greatly appreciates Bank Indonesia's trust in us to collaborate with us to launch Gerai CERDAS as a pilot project. We believe that improving consumer literacy, especially among students as a digitally literate generation, is key to creating a secure and sustainable digital transaction ecosystem," Ronny said.
BNI has partnered with the University of Indonesia (UI) to launch Gerai CERDAS as an education center and discussion space related to consumer protection in late October.
The facility serves as a pilot location to broaden students' understanding of rights and security in digital transactions.
Gerai CERDAS is designed as a learning center on personal data protection, recognizing digital fraud modes, risk mitigation measures, and initial response to transaction security threats. This approach combines two-way education through consultations, discussions, and the provision of easy-to-understand literacy materials.
"Through Gerai CERDAS, we want to foster a culture of digital security awareness among the younger generation and equip them with the understanding necessary to maintain the security of their daily transactions," Ronny said.
BNI plans to contribute more in the field of consumer protection, including through ongoing collaboration with universities, regulators, and other stakeholders. The company hopes that Gerai CERDAS can become a model adopted by the financial services industry to strengthen digital security literacy throughout Indonesia.
As part of the national consumer protection vision, this initiative is expected to contribute to creating a safer, healthier, and more inclusive digital transaction ecosystem amidst the accelerating digitalization of the economy.
