Denpasar. The Bali Police have arrested two Indian nationals for allegedly murdering an Indonesian man in the provincial capital of Denpasar, an officer said on Tuesday.

The suspects, identified as Gurmej Singh and Ajaypal Singh, both 21 years old, were arrested hours after the murder on Saturday, Denpasar Metropolitan Police Chief Bambang Hugo Pamungkas told reporters.

They allegedly attacked Fitran Robby Firdaus, 39, and hit him with a wooden stick to his death in an altercation that erupted during a card game at the victim’s rented house on Jalan Tukad Bilok, the officer said.

Another Indian national identified as Rajes Sheen was injured in the assault and hospitalized.

"After killing the victim, both suspects attempted to flee the scene. The police coordinated with the immigration office at Ngurah Rai [Airport] and arrested them hours after the murder," Bambang said.

According to preliminary investigation, Fitran had repeatedly used expletives during the card game directed at the suspects, leading to the attack, he added.

Bambang said the victim, who was registered as a Jakarta resident, first met with the Indian nationals at Kuta beach three days before the murder and offered them to stay at the rented house with him.

The suspects entered Bali using tourist visas, but police didn’t provide details about the third Indian national who was also attacked which caused him a serious injury to the head.

Police charge the two suspects with fatal assault which carries a prison sentence of up to 15 years.
