Jakarta. Indonesian weightlifter Rizki Juniansyah delivered a stunning performance at the World Weightlifting Championships in Forde, Norway, winning two gold medals and breaking a world record in the men’s 79-kilogram class on Monday evening.

Rizki set a new clean and jerk world record after lifting 204 kilograms, a feat that secured him the gold medal in the discipline and helped him clinch another gold for the total lift category, with a combined 361 kilograms -- including 157 kilograms in the snatch and 204 kilograms in the clean and jerk.

He also earned a bronze medal in the snatch, narrowly missing a heavier attempt at 162 kilograms.

The record-breaking achievement cements his position as Indonesia’s most successful lifter, as he also won the gold medal and set a new Olympic record in the clean and jerk during the men’s 73kg weightlifting event at the Paris Olympics last year.

Indonesia’s dominance in the category was further reinforced by Rahmat Erwin Abdullah, who claimed the silver medal in the clean and jerk with a lift of 203 kilograms.

North Korea’s Ri Chong-song finished with a silver in total (360 kg) and took gold in the snatch with a 163-kilogram lift. Egypt’s Mohamed Younes secured bronze in total (360 kg) from a 162-kilogram snatch and a 198-kilogram clean and jerk, while South Korea’s Son Hyeon-ho earned bronze in the clean and jerk with 198 kilograms.

Indonesia also added to its medal tally through Eko Yuli Irawan, who won bronze in the 65-kilogram class, maintaining his reputation as one of the country’s most consistent performers on the world stage.

At just 22 years old, Rizki Juniansyah has already become one of Indonesia’s brightest hopes in weightlifting. Before the Olympic glory, he previously captured three world junior titles and set multiple youth and junior world records between 2021 and 2023, competing in the 73kg and 81kg categories.
