Prabowo Sends Vice President Gibran to Represent Indonesia at G20 Summit in Johannesburg
Jakarta. Vice President Gibran Rakabuming departed for the G20 Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa, on Friday to represent President Prabowo Subianto.
According to the Presidential Office, Prabowo will not attend the summit due to a separate state agenda in the Netherlands and China scheduled for November 22–23, 2025.
Gibran left for Johannesburg from Halim Perdanakusuma Airport at approximately 9:30 a.m. The summit takes place amid geopolitical tension, including a boycott by U.S. President Donald Trump, who has accused the South African government of discriminating against white citizens.
The G20 Summit will address three main discussion tracks:
The first session will focus on sustainable economic development, including the role of trade and the financial sector in growth, as well as global debt challenges.
The second session will address building a resilient world, covering disaster preparedness, climate change, the energy transition, and food systems.
The third session, scheduled for Sunday, will center on critical minerals, a topic of strategic interest for Indonesia due to its role in the global supply chain.
Indonesia is expected to highlight its priorities in sustainable economic development and the strengthening of critical mineral cooperation to support downstream industries and attract long-term investment.
