Jakarta. The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) has retained its status as the largest party in the House of Representatives following the announcement of the national vote tally on Wednesday. However, its lead has been narrowed to just above 1 percentage point over the Golkar Party.

The PDI-P, which currently controls approximately 20 percent of House seats, secured 16.72 percent of the vote in the February 14 general elections.

Trailing closely behind is the Golkar Party, with 15.29 percent of the vote, surpassing the Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra), which slipped to third place with 13.22 percent of the vote.

It's important to note that the election results do not yet represent the actual distribution of House seats, as there will be further calculations excluding parties that failed to reach the parliamentary threshold.

According to the national vote tally by the General Election Commission (KPU), there were 151.8 million legitimate votes for the legislative election, compared to 164.2 million votes for the presidential election.

The PDI-P secured 25.39 million votes, followed by Golkar (23.2 million), and Gerindra (20.07 million).

Among the incumbent parties, the Muslim-based United Development Party (PPP) failed to meet the threshold of 4 percent of popular votes, meaning it will have no representation in the House when the new term begins in October.

Similarly, the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI), which appointed the president’s youngest son, Kaesang Pangarep, as chairman ahead of the election, also did not pass the threshold in its third election attempt.

The results from the legislative election are as follows:

1. Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) - 16.72 percent
