Man Whose Wife Falls Down Airport Lift Gap Sues Angkasa Pura
Jakarta. The husband of the woman who died after falling through an elevator gap at Kualanamu Airport in Deli Serdang on Tuesday filed a report against state-owned airport operator Angkasa Pura II and five other companies for negligence that caused someone’s death.
Ahmad Faisal, the spouse and a Malaysian national, reported Angkasa Pura II, among others, to the police after his late wife Aisiah Sinta Dewi Hasibuan fell into an elevator gap on April 24. The airport only discovered Aisiah’s body three days later after they noticed a foul smell.
Faisal also reported Angkasa Pura II subsidiaries, namely Angkasa Pura Aviasi and Angkasa Pura Solusi, for negligence.
He accused GMR Airports Consortium —which is made up of India’s GMR Group and France’s Aéroports de Paris— of the same. This consortium helps manage the Kualanamu airport.
Faisal's report also included Aéroports de Paris and GMR Airports.
“So we have filed a report against six companies in total. ... We hope to take legal action that is in accordance with the Indonesian laws,” Ahmad’s attorney Indra Posan Sihombing told reporters at the police’s criminal investigation department (Bareskrim) building in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Ahmad’s attorney Putri Maya Rumanti said the victim Aisiah came to Kualanamu airport to see her nibling off on April 24.
Aisiah immediately called the relative when she got trapped in the airport’s elevator, but the call got disconnected. The nibling immediately informed other family members who then asked the airport security to check the CCTV footage. The airport security only showed the footage recorded by the CCTV outside the elevator. A few days later, the airport made the shocking discovery.
"If only the security checked the CCTV footage on the inside of the elevator, maybe we could have saved Aisiah. But what the family members are most disappointed of is that they only checked the lift’s footage after they found the body," Putri added.
