Magnitude 5.3 Earthquake Shakes Sukabumi and Bandung Areas

Sukabumi. A magnitude 5.3 earthquake struck Sukabumi, West Java, on Sunday, at 4:54 p.m.

According to the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the quake’s epicenter was located 91 kilometers south of Sukabumi Regency at a depth of 10 kilometers. While the earthquake did not pose a tsunami threat, its tremors were widely felt.

BMKG reported that the shaking was experienced in Sukabumi, Cireungas, Ujung Genteng, Nagrak, Cimahi, Lembang, Banjaran, and Bandung Regency.

Sendi Susanti, 34, a resident of Taman Asri Housing in Subangjaya, Cikole, Sukabumi City, described the tremors as brief but significant. “I was inside watching TV with my child when the shaking occurred. We even had to step outside,” said Sendi.

The earthquake’s effects were also felt in various areas of Sukabumi Regency. Nuri Yasmin, 26, from Sasagaran Village in Kebonpedes District, noted, “The shaking was strong; initially, I didn’t think it was an earthquake. Decorations on the walls were moving.”

The Sukabumi Regency Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) is currently monitoring the post-earthquake situation through local disaster response teams. The Sukabumi City BPBD has reported no immediate information regarding affected residents or damaged structures.
