KPU Investigates Ballot Tampering Allegation in Malaysia
Kuala Lumpur. The General Election Commission (KPU) has uncovered a case of unauthorized ballot tampering in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where 1,972 ballots have been fraudulently cast.
"We have received information that 1,972 ballots were tampered with by unauthorized individuals. I have just communicated with the overseas election committee (PPLN) in Kuala Lumpur to confirm the details of these ballots," Idham told reporters in Jakarta on Friday.
"PPLN Kuala Lumpur will provide further detailed information. Currently, the overseas election supervisors in Kuala Lumpur are investigating the incident," he added.
A video circulating on social media depicts a group of individuals participating in the ballot-casting process for the 2024 elections in Malaysia. In the footage, they were seen casting votes by puncturing a hole in the ballots for the Democratic Party of Struggle's (PKB) legislative candidate Ida Fauziyah, who is the current Manpower Minister.
They were also observed casting votes for the presidential and vice-presidential candidates Ganjar Pranowo and Mahfud MD. After casting the ballots, they were seen placing the pre-filled ballots back into white envelopes.
Earlier, the National Campaign Team (TKN) for presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto admitted to discovering thousands of pre-filled ballots for rival candidate Ganjar in Malaysia.
"We have received reliable information about the illegal ballot casting activity for thousands of ballots for overseas voters in Malaysia, showing several individuals casting votes for legislative and presidential candidates Ganjar-Mahfud," said Habiburokhman, Vice Chairman of the Legal Affairs Division of Prabowo's campaign team, on Tuesday.
Habiburokhman suspected the involvement of individuals from PPLN and employees of the Indonesian Embassy in Malaysia. "We request the Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) to take legal actions regarding this issue, and we will soon file an official report with Bawaslu RI," he added.
