Tokyo. An Indonesian citizen passed away from Covid-19 in Tochigi Prefecture, Japan, on Thursday. At the time of his passing, SAP was in custody at Sano Prison. 

Indonesian Ambassador to Japan, Heri Akhmadi, said on Friday that preliminary information from the local police indicated that a 27-year-old Indonesian citizen named SAP, hailing from Central Java, passed away at Sano Ishikai Hospital in Tochigi in the early hours of Jan. 25, succumbing to Covid-19.

The deceased had been under police investigation since Nov. 2023 for driving without a license and immigration violations. SAP had been in custody at Sano Prison.

SAP's body is presently at Sano Ishikai Hospital. The Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo has reached out to the deceased's family in Indonesia to share the unfortunate news and discuss the family's choices regarding funeral arrangements

Furthermore, the Indonesian Embassy has sought clarification from the Sano Police regarding the timeline of SAP's illness and the steps taken for medical treatment. The embassy is closely monitoring the situation and is committed to assisting the family during this difficult time.
