Indonesia to Send Medical Aid Worth $1 Million to Sudan
Jakarta. Indonesia is planning to send medical assistance worth $1 million to the conflict-hit Sudan.
It will send off the aid from Jakarta to Port Sudan on its national flag carrier Garuda Indonesia. According to the Foreign Affairs Ministry, the assistance comprises the list of medicines and medical equipment that the Sudanese government says they need. The humanitarian aid will likely arrive in the war-torn country on Thursday.
“The assistance reflects the brotherhood and how much Indonesian people care about Sudan. The Indonesian government hopes that this can help lift the burden off the Sudanese people amidst an armed conflict,” Indonesian Ambassador to Sudan Sunarko was quoted as saying in a recent press statement.
The medical aid comes from the National Disaster Mitigation Agency or BNPB’s funds. These are money saved by the Indonesian government to be used in case a disaster arises. Almost a year has passed since armed clashes broke out between Sudan’s military forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). Indonesia last year had evacuated its nationals from Sudan. Hundreds of Indonesians at the time were studying at the local Sudanese universities.
