Jakarta. The Indonesia National Football Team has climbed four positions to 142 in the latest FIFA ranking announced on Thursday. The Garuda squad achieved a total of 1072.66 points, gaining an additional 8.65 points following their participation in the 2023 Asian Cup.

Led by South Korean Coach coach Shin Tae-yong, Indonesia made history by advancing to the Round of 16 in the 2023 Asian Cup. The Red-and-White team was the second lowest ranked team after Hong Kong in the tournament.

Indonesia had a tough start in the Asian Cup, losing 3-1 to Iraq. They bounced back with a 1-0 win against Vietnam, giving fans hope for a historic moment. Despite a 3-1 loss to Japan, they made it to the last 16 because of a draw between Kirgizstan and Oman. This pushed Indonesia into the knockout round as one of the top four third-placed teams. Unfortunately, their journey ended in the last 16 with a 4-0 defeat to Australia.

In Southeast Asia, Indonesia holds the fifth position in the FIFA rankings. Meanwhile, Thailand maintains its top spot in the ASEAN region, securing the 101st position after an impressive 12-rank rise, credited to their performance in the 2023 Asian Cup. Thailand reached the last 16 but was knocked out by Uzbekistan with a 2-1 defeat.

Vietnam holds the second position in the region but experiences an 11-rank drop due to their subpar performance in the 2023 Asian Cup. Meanwhile, Malaysia slips two positions to 132nd after losing 12.7 points based on their tournament display.

Despite not participating in the 2023 Asian Cup, the Philippines holds the fourth position in the Southeast Asian region, securing the 139th spot globally with a collection of 1086.17 points.

Following the conclusion of the Asian Cup and the African Cup, the top five FIFA rankings remain unchanged. Argentina continues to lead the pack with 1855.2 points, followed by France with 1845.44 points.
