Tangerang. The monthly number of foreigners being deported from Indonesia has increased by 94 percent so far this year compared to last year’s figures, a senior official said on Thursday.

Between January and May, the number of deportees totaled 1,761 foreigners, averaging 352 deportees per month, said Silmy Karim, the director general of immigration at the Justice Ministry.

"This monthly figure represents a 94.4 percent rise from an average of 181 deportees per month in 2023,” Silmy said.

According to immigration data, a total of 2,174 foreigners were deported throughout last year, mostly for visa violations.
