House Fire Kills Five Family Members in Semarang, Including Pregnant Woman and Toddler
Semarang. A devastating fire broke out in the early hours of Friday at two adjacent houses on Jalan Pesanggrahan Raya, Mlatibaru subdistrict, Semarang, killing five members of a single family, including a pregnant woman and a young child.
Inspector First Class Andy Susanto, head of the East Semarang Police, said the fire started around 2:20 a.m. and quickly engulfed both homes and their contents.
“Five people were confirmed dead,” Andy said.
The victims have been identified as Aminah (65), Amalia (33), who was pregnant, Saidah (55), Muhamad Aditya (14), and Kimora Azzalea Racmadi (4). All were from the same family. Their bodies have been taken to Dr. Kariadi General Hospital for further examination.
The fire was first noticed by neighbors who saw thick smoke and flames coming from the house. Residents immediately called for help and contacted the Semarang Fire Department.
Eight fire trucks were dispatched to the scene. Firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze by approximately 3:15 a.m.
“By the time we arrived, the fire had already consumed most of the structure,” Andy said.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire was likely caused by an electrical short circuit, possibly due to contact between an optical cable and a power line. However, police are continuing to investigate the exact cause.
“We’re still gathering witness statements and collecting evidence for further investigation,” Andy added.
