District Chief Prosecutor Detained Over Alleged Extortion Case
Jakarta. The Attorney General’s Office has arrested and detained one of its own prosecutors on suspicion of extortion, a spokesperson said on Tuesday.
The suspect, Padeli, head of the Central Bangka District Prosecutor’s Office in Bangka Belitung province, has been named a suspect in an alleged extortion case linked to the handling of graft case in the National Zakat Agency, or Badan Amil Zakat Nasional (Baznas).
Padeli has been placed in detention for the next 20 days starting December 22, 2025, at the Attorney General’s Office detention facility, spokesperson Anang Supriatna said in a statement.
According to Anang, Padeli is suspected of extorting and receiving payments totaling Rp 840 million, or about $50,000, in connection with the handling of a case involving the alleged misuse of Baznas funds. The alleged conduct took place while he was serving as head of the Enrekang District Prosecutor’s Office in South Sulawesi.
Anang said the investigation was launched following a public complaint and stressed that the Attorney General’s Office would handle the case professionally while upholding the presumption of innocence.
He did not provide further details about the Baznas case handled by Padeli, saying only that the prosecutor was deemed to have acted unprofessionally in managing the matter.
